Paphos, the Perfect Place for a Holiday

Paphos, also known as Pafos, is situated in the south eastern corner of Cyprus.  What makes this part of Cyprus is the amount of Paphos flights available from all over Europe.  Offering a mixture of historical culture that blends ancient history with a relaxed beach life, it’s a great destination for a family holiday. 

For members of the family who love wandering around dusty ruins and museums, there are some real gems to be found in Paphos.  Among the best of these is the catacombs which are actually two churches located underground.  You’ll be able to identify the location of these by finding the tree which has had pieces of clothing attached to it by people believing in the tomb’s curative powers!   One of the churches is from the 12^th century and has some of the original frescoes visible, although these have been damaged over the ages.  Lit by candles, the catacombs have a good atmosphere but as it’s also dark down there so you might find it useful to take a torch!  The second church is situated close to the first.

Another place, especially for taking photographs of the glorious sea views of Paphos, is the Tombs of the Kings (Tafon ton Vasileon).  There are approximately 100 tombs on the site but the area is very steep so be careful when walking around it.  Some of the columns date all the way back to the 3^rd century!  Paphos is also home to some stunning Roman mosaics which date back to the 3^rd and 4^th centuries.

The most popular beach area in Paphos is probably the bay around Coral Bay.  If you want to go where it’s happening, this is a good choice.  With restaurants and shops as well as hotels all packed into this relatively small area, there’s plenty of holiday shopping and eating to be done right next to the beach!  If you love the sand, then Paphos flights, reserve a hotel that’s in the Coral Bay area, and once you arrive, everything you need to make a perfect holiday will be right on your doorstep!

If you prefer some other activities on your holiday Paphos offers an 18-hole golf course that has been created from the grounds to a 12^th century monastery.  There’s also a pool at the golf course so if you prefer to soak up the sun by the pool while your partner plays a round or two, this is a great place to go.  There are however two other golf courses in the area making Paphos a great golfers’ destination!  Kids and the young at heart will love the Aphrodite Aquapark where there are over 25 slides to enjoy along with other water activities.  With horse-back riding and even bowling also on the activity list there’s a lot more to Paphos than sand and archaeological finds!
